We took a bus from Dali to Lijiang. This time it was a day bus, but it was an adventure non-the-less. It was a small, eighteen-person bus that was at capacity. Everyone on board had baggage but the bus had no dedicated space for baggage, so it was all piled in the aisle. In order to get to our seats near the back of the bus, we had to climb over everyone’s bags and then we had to add our backpacks to the pile.
Then we settled in a five-hour, bone-jarring ride. Where I am from, you wait to open up a new road until it is finished. Not so in this part of China. The road was still in the process of being built but it was open for business. We arrived in our Lijiang just after the dinner hour a little dusty and a little tired, but no worse for the wear.
