The Local School III

On Thursday, we went back to the local school for our third and final visit. After a fun-filled morning working with the kids, it was time to say goodbye. Considering that we had only been together for three mornings and that there was a major language barrier separating most us, it was a surprisingly difficult goodbye.

We left behind all the classroom materials we had brought. We also presented the principal with several hundred dollars that we had raised before our trip. In return, the children and the principal presented us with bags and bags of homegrown dried persimmons and a small, ornate compact for each of us.

In a brief closing ceremony we sang “Amazing Grace” and one of our teachers, Ms. Wun prayed in Mandarin. And then it was time board our bus for the last time.
